Workshop Pass - Monday Morning Wheel-throwing Class
Join me in my studio at Camden Park for semi-private wheel-throwing classes. I will guide you through the principles of wheel-throwing, from good practice for centring clay on the wheel, to finessing technique to develop a range of shapes and forms. With a maximum class size of two, you will receive individualised tuition so you can focus on your own journey with clay.
TERM DATES:
Mondays 16 November - 7 December 9:30-11:30am - see full details on our events page.
Beginners:
Week 1 - Centring. Learn how to quickly and easily centre clay on the wheel. You may not get anything made in your first week as the focus will be on the foundational skill of getting the clay centred, and practicing this skill.
Week 2 - Forming. Learn how to open up the shape to create different forms - from cups to bowls to plates. You will also learn the foundations of pulling up the walls of your form to maintain evenness and consistency.
Week 3 - Trimming. Learn how to re-centre your form, and the basics of trimming the shape to finesse your form.
Week 4 - Glazing. Learn basic glazing techniques such as pouring, brushing and layering to get a range of finishes on your piece(s).
Intermediate (for those with wheel throwing experience):
Week 1 - Forming. You will be shown a range of skills and techniques for creating different shapes and forms - bellying out and collaring in, claw grip, among others for creating a range of more sophisticated shapes on the wheel.
Week 2 - Your choice. See where your practice is taking you - do you want to create lidded forms? Or make larger or composite shapes by joining pieces? You guide the direction of the class based on your learning speed and confidence on the wheel.
Week 3 - Trimming and decoration techniques. Learn some more sophisticated decorating techniques to make your mark on your pieces - carving, water etching, sgraffito, the choice is yours.
Week 4 - Glazing. Because we always want you to go home with finished pieces, the last week will be glazing.
Price includes high-fire clay, food-safe glazes and bisque and glaze firing service.
